Description

Gibellina Nuova, rebuilt after the 1968 Belice earthquake, is an open-air museum with works by Pietro Consagra, Alberto Burri, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Mimmo Paladino and Alessandro Mendini. For its year as Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026 the municipality launched a programme to repair and upgrade its landmark spaces.

The works cover the Consagra Theatre, the Meeting area, the artificial lake, Piazza Municipio and Viale Belice, the Secret Gardens, the Case di Posta, the Gesù e Maria complex, Mendini's civic tower and a new wayfinding system.

Rebuilding supervises the works and coordinates safety across a dispersed site, working alongside artworks, and prepared a design variation that included technical and fire safety upgrades to the auditorium.
